Sujit Choudhry: Making Peace Through Constitutional Law

Sujit Choudhry is an expert in constitutional law. Constitutional law experts are essential for writing a constitution to bring law, order, and peace to a constitutional democracy.

Sujit Choudhry is an internationally recognized authority on constitutional law. He is the founding director of the Center of Constitutional Transitions, an organization that works with global experts to use evidence to produce policy options for decision making and agenda setting.

Choudhry was born in India but raised in Canada, giving him a strong multicultural background that shaped his interests in constitutional law. His parents, who were both educators, inspired an interest in academic pursuits early on. Choudhry now holds degrees from three different countries and has traveled the world as a constitutional adviser for rising democracies. After years of experience helping people from a range of cultural backgrounds, Choudhry liked the idea of building a global network to help emerging democracies. Building a democracy from the ground up is no small task and there was a huge lack of sufficient up-to-date current information to help these new democratic governments. Choudhry believes knowing other democracies’ failures and successes is vital for all constitutional democracies to grow and learn. After working with many democracies in many different countries, Choudhry has adopted an empathetic approach to helping emerging constitutional democracies.
