As the founder and current CEO of Sellem Industries, Alec Sellem has quickly created a name for himself as one of the leading figures in alternative mining strategies. Alec Sellem believes that the traditional methods of mining gold and other precious metals will not have a long term benefit to the industry. The England based company is seeking to first begin repairing the relationships between the residents of mining towns and the companies that own them. Alec Sellem strongly believes it is in the best interest to find common ground as well as support the people of these towns with moral and resources to do the job. We recently sat down with Alec Sellem to go a little more in-depth about his career and the future of the mining industry.
How did you get into this line of work and where did the idea of your company come from?
Alec Sellem states that he has always had a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit to himself. He was first introduced to the concept of mining when he was helping out a friend trade and sell gold. During this time, Mr.Sellem began to really ponder about the workings of the gold trade and soon realized that people often implemented counterproductive methods. The idea for Sellem Industries began when he first noticed that gold was being found in Africa, yet it was transported at a high cost to be refined elsewhere. This didn’t make sense to him, and therefore, he began his journey to establish a refinery in Africa where the cost of refining the gold would be considerably lower.
What sets Sellem Industries apart from other companies?
Alec Sellem explains that his company is very different from his competitors because they often see and think about the “Big picture” instead of what will benefit them right now. Furthermore, Alec Sellem states that one of the best aspects of the company is the way the company is able to not only work with local residents but improve their lives at the same time.
